Khabib Nurmagomedov Announces First Title Fight & It’s Not Conor McGregor

After Khabib Nurmagomedov won the undisputed UFC ligtweight title a couple weeks ago versus Al Iaquinta, MMA Fighters, Media and fans alike took to social media to bash his “lackluster” performance. Many fighters like Eddie Alvarez, Kevin Lee, Brendan Schaub, etc. trashed his performance in interviews and on social media. Khabib’s fans claimed he was just testing out his striking as to why he looked so bad. A new video has emerged explaining the reason he looked so bad and it’s because of Al Iaquinta’s wrestling skills.

11th ranked Iaquinta who is also a full time real estate agent took the fight on 1 days notice and coincidentally it only took him 1 round to figure out Khabib’s “Unstoppable Wrestling” before completely shutting him down for the rest of the fight. After getting taken down multiple times in round 1, Iaquinta made the necessary adjustments and forced Khabib to go 1-7 on takedown attempts in round 2-5 forcing him to stay standing where he looked “Amateur” according to Joe Rogan. Khabib only having 1 top ten win in his entire MMA career needs to get back on the mat immediately to rack up some wins versus top talent.

This past weekend Dustin Poirier took a knockout victory over Justin Gaejthe in Arizona and called out Khabib in the post fight interview. Dustin appeared on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani where he announced that he will be facing Khabib next for the title possibly in Russia as he was contacted by Khabib’s manager confirming the fight. “I think it’s pretty good chances, Tony’s timeline is nine months and we got to see if Conor comes back, maybe he doesn’t. Khabib’s manager reached out to me and told me I’m the next guy in line and they want to fight me, “Like I said in m post-fight, I am not after rematches an I’m not trying to get even with Eddie. I’m trying to be a world champion an grow my savings account for my family and secure my legacy as a UFC world champion, which is what I started fighting to be. I want to be a world champion and I want to be the best in the world.”

Dustin Poirier
“The Eddie thing, we tried to get that fight and a lot of things went on behind the scenes in the last few months before me and Justin got booked. I haven’t told anybody this, because I didn’t want to talk about it in preparation for my fight, but me an Eddie were offered a rematch on the Brooklyn card that Khabib and Tony Ferguson were on,”

Dustin Poirier
“My management told me pretty much they were trying to book this fight because if they fall out one of you guys were going to replace them. I accepted the fight and Eddie turned it down. This was months ago, Eddie is ranked higher than me and he could’ve probably fought for the belt.”
